Project Description

Beginning in 5th grade, The Village School students are introduced to Robotic Engineering and programming using the Lego EV3 platform. After 5th grade, students have several Robotics electives available. They may choose to continue in Robotic Engineering, which gives them the opportunity to continue to build and program robots. Students also may qualify for the F.I.R.S.T. Lego League competition teams. The F.L.L. teams design, build, and program a competition robot and compete against other teams from around the state for the opportunity to go up against the top 100 teams from around the world. The F.I.R.S.T. World Championships take place in St. Louis in May.Students may continue in competitive robotics by choosing the High School Engineering class. The Engineering class will participate in the F.I.R.S.T. Tech Challenge competition, which offers the opportunity to design, build, and program a competition robot using the Tetrix Robotics platform. At this level, the teams will design their own parts using computer aided design software and a CNC machine, as well as off-the-shelf products. Students in the F.I.R.S.T. robotics programs are eligible for over $20 million in college scholarships.
